In terms of infrastructure, GPS, Howrah is one of the best school in the Howrah district matching excellent standards. It is one of the few schools which has upgraded its classrooms to facilitate teaching through modern tools and techniques. The School has  Wi-Fi enabled LCD projectors, tutorial rooms, library, a state-of-the-art seminar room and a fully equipped auditorium with seating capacity of over 60 persons. The School takes pride in being a differently-able friendly school campus with new ramps and special washrooms added to the building. Also, the School has various facilities to address the reading, hearing and understanding requirements of various students. The GPS, Howrah library is an empowering unit with a Resource Centre for Visually Challenged possessing an array of audio-visual aids to assist in the process of self actualization. The School is endowed with renovated hostels, medical support systems (along with physiotherapy centre), a huge parking facility (available to both students and faculty), and playground of excellent standards.

The school proudly maintains a smoke-free and vehicle-free campus, fostering a healthy and eco-friendly environment for its students. Embracing sustainability, it has introduced modern green initiatives such as solar heating, rainwater harvesting, paper recycling, and other environmentally conscious practices.

To ensure safety and security, the campus is fully equipped with CCTV surveillance, providing round-the-clock monitoring. This vigilant system supports the safety needs of a well-facilitated campus that welcomes a large number of students and visitors daily.

At GPS, its infrastructure has a vivid history, reflective of its growth and evolution as an institution. In its early days when the School was still known as the management institution. Today, the distinct colonnade façade in the Art Deco style of the neo-classical school of architecture, with its sprawling lawns makes the School a landmark in the Howrah District.

The School’s infrastructure has witnessed several architectural milestones since its inauguration. Respect for tradition and originality with inclusive modernity has been the driving ethos behind the developments to the School’s infrastructure. Additions when made to the School have been sensitive to the original character of the existing building and were done keeping in view the needs of the stakeholder and improving the functionality of the Institution.

The School also enhanced its digital and ICT enabled learning by commencing a Media Lab in its campus for creation and dissemination of digital e-learning content.

Academic/Teaching Learning and Research Infrastructure

GPS, Howrah provides a blended mix of physical and digital mediums to provide a highly engaging and conducive environment for effective teaching-learning and progressive academic development.

The class-rooms in the Main Building of School retain their heritage look with vintage teak furniture. These class rooms at GPS facilitate a blend of traditional and modern modes of teaching such as:

  • Three panel Green Boards with large central panel and two small side panels. The green color is gentle on the eyes, reducing glare and making it easier to focus. This helps improve learning and keeps the mind fresh for longer.
  • Overhead Wi-Fi enabled LCD projectors with Roll-down screens cascading over the central panel green boards on use. The LCD projectors can be used by Wi-Fi or VGA cables.
  • Podium for faculty members.

Additionally, classrooms for the courses are equipped with bass boosted audio-visual system and employ smart podiums.

Attached to the main academic block, the GPS Library is centrally Wi-Fi enabled unit with seating capacity for about 20 readers. The GPS library employs the latest technology in library sciences to provide the best learning environment to its users.  

There is a unique Resource Center for Visually Impaired Students (RCVC) developed under the GPS Enabling Unit. t offers a range of helpful tools, including assistive technology, hardware devices, and user-friendly software, all aimed at making learning easier and more accessible.

Conference and Cultural Infrastructure

With seating for 50 people, it hosts school events, functions, and cultural programs. It features a large stage, two green rooms, modern lighting and sound systems, wall paneling for better acoustics, and facilities like washrooms and lockers.

Basic Health Care Unit (BHCU)

The School has a Basic Health Care unit to provide medical support in its campus to provide immediate medical assistance to needy students and staff members. Located in the school building.

Residential Infrastructure

The School has an in-campus Boys Hostel within its campus to accommodate male students who come from the different parts of the Howrah district. The Boys Hostel provides accommodation for twenty students, with seats divided across various classes of the different classes offered by the School. Divided in two blocks, the fully Wi-Fi enabled Hostel has furnished rooms, separate dining hall, common room and lawns attached to its premises.

The School has an in-campus Girls Hostel within its campus to accommodate female students who come from the different districts of the State. The Girls Hostel provides accommodation for twenty students, with seats divided across various semesters of the different classes offered by the School. The fully Wi-Fi enabled Hostel has furnished rooms, separate dining hall, common room and lawns attached to its premises.

The School operates a hygienic canteen having a seating capacity of ten pupil. The School Canteen is a popular meeting place for students serving a variety of dishes at moderate prices. The ambience of the Schools canteen reflects the youthfulness of its visitors with its elegant tables, cozy chairs and colorful graffiti.

Utility Infrastructure

The school provides a dedicated parking area on the opposite side of the main gate, exclusively for students and staff. To manage entry smoothly, parking stickers are given to authorized users.

The School has also outsourced a photocopier outlet to provide photocopy, printing, compiling and binding facilities to its students and staff.  The outlet opens on all working days during School hours.

IT Infrastructure At GPS, Howrah, West Bengal

The school features three modern computer labs, each equipped with the latest software and hardware to ensure top-notch performance. Every lab has an uninterrupted power backup for smooth functioning.

These labs serve as hubs for teaching information technology and computer-based subjects. They are also open for students to access the internet, practice skills, and work on their projects.

The School campus is fully Wi-Fi enabled which can be accessed by students and staff members in the academic block, tutorial block, corridors, open areas, hostels and sports area. Users are provided a secure access with a login ID and password for using Wi-Fi facility through laptops.

The policy of the school is to fulfill and upgrade the infrastructural requirements as and when such need arises. Various committees of the schools are constituted to plan and ensure that the available infrastructure is in line with its academic growth and is optimally utilized. These include:

The school prioritizes the regular upkeep of all its facilities, ensuring everything remains in top condition. Maintenance tasks are handled by skilled in-house professionals and, when needed, outsourced to specialized external agencies. A dedicated full-time caretaker oversees cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation, water supply, electricity, security, and stationery needs, regularly updating the Chief Administrative Officer on daily operations.

To meet ongoing requirements, the school routinely purchases new furniture and equipment. Additionally, the school employs its own plumber, electrician, sweepers, and gardeners to maintain the campus, ensuring well-kept lawns and vibrant greenery.

The School has appointed a Senior Technical Assistant and a Computer Network Assistant to provide regular support services relating to computer hardware and software. They also ensure the allotment of Wi-Fi passwords to individual students and faculty members. The Schools awards Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) to external agencies/private vendors for the maintenance of computers, LAN, servers, printers, projectors, scanners, laptops and biometric attendance system.
